Welcome to La Petite Academy in Chesterton, IN where we strive to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children can grow, learn, and play.

We understand how important early childhood development is and the impact it has on future educational success. This is why La Petite offers developmentally appropriate curriculum designed specifically for each stage of early childhood.

All of our teachers receive extensive new employee orientation training along with monthly training to keep up to date on best practices in early childhood education. Our lead teachers are required to hold degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, or child development.

We’re committed to keeping you connected throughout the day while your child is in our care. Get access to live streaming video of your child’s classroom, plus other real-time updates, with our exclusive mobile app for families, SproutAbout.

To help serve the hard-working families in our community, La Petite in Chesterton is open from 6 AM to 6 PM, year-round (only closing on major holidays). You will find that we are centrally located with easy access to the Toll Road and I-94 for city commuters.

We have been very happy with the teachers at this school. They are always greeting my children by name when we arrive. The teachers know all the kids names even if they are not in their classroom. And the things my daughter is bringing home surprise me on a weekly basis - she is learning so much!

We are overall very happy here. Our child does well and we love that we can see her on the cameras. My favorite part of her days is honestly seeing her sit at the table and be patient with all her friends at snack and meal times. She already says more words than when we started and we have only been in school 2 months.

We love it. We switched to La Petite from a different daycare and the difference was day and night. My daughter has strong relationships with the children in her classroom and she has strong relationships with her teachers. She has also grown and learned a lot during her time there.

La petite staff and their teachers are beyond sweet hearts. Each morning were agreed with a warm hello and a great big smile. If my little is being shy during the morning drop off,one of his teachers instantly makeing him giggle. Also, I like the healthy variety meals that are prepared daily. Furthermore my son has learned so much adding and subtracting and so much more.

We have three children at La Petite, and the staff have become more like family. And that is extremely comforting as our little ones spend so much of their days there. It was the most difficult choice putting them into daycare, but La Petite has made it that much easier!

Education: Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education

Certifications: CPR/First Aid

My name is Rachel Mitchell and I have been the director at La Petite for a total of 10 years. I have been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for a total of 14 years. I love my position because every day I get to watch all of the children laugh, grow, and learn! I am so proud of our dedicated team of teachers who love and support the children! I am married and I have 3 children that have all attended La Petite and loved their time here.

Hello! My name is Halle and I have been the Assistant Director for three years. Prior to my position here, I taught Preschool for five years in Illinois. Everyday I loved seeing children discover and master new skills on their own! I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Concordia University Chicago. Here at La Petite Academy, I am here to support and coach our wonderful teachers and staff.

Hello! My name is Betsy and I am the Administrative Assistant. I have been the Administrative Assistant for almost five years now. Before gaining this role, I was a Lead Infant teacher and the Team Lead. I have loved being able to watch all the children grow and learn new things everyday. I am also currently the school's Safety Captain. I am here to ensure that all your children are in a safe environment! I look forward to getting to know your children!
